Psychotherapy+ EMDR
In 1:1 psychotherapy*, I work with clients to get to the root cause(s) of whatever may be bringing them to seek psychotherapeutic support.
I believe that self-acceptance and self-understanding are fundamental to meaningful change and that each of us has an innate healing capacity and ability to thrive. Sometimes, unresolved memories or traumas, anxiety, depression, self-criticism, identity issues, cultural conditioning or daily stressors can stand in the way of our sense of vitality and efficacy in life. I provide clients with a supportive, non-judgmental space (with a bit of humor when appropriate) to process psychological distress and get to the root of what is keeping you from orienting toward more authenticity and balance.
My approach is first and foremoste intuitive and grounded in contemporary psychology, neuropsychology, and non-dogmatic spirituality. I specialize in a trauma treatment called EMDR and in women's health and feminine psychology. Read on to learn more about my approach, pricing, and scheduling!
My Approach
EMDR
Short for “eye movement desensitization reprocessing”, EMDR is actually a quite gentle and transpersonal trauma treatment that can address a range of issues from single incident traumas to more complex developmental traumas and stressors. The treatment originally used eye movements (hence the mouthful of a name!), but we now use tapping on alternate sides of the body to induce a relaxed and open state with which to process and ultimately resolve troubling and traumatic memories. EMDR can be effective for PTSD and Complex PTSD, relationship issues, ineffective habitual patterns, obsessive thinking, self-esteem and self-criticism, and addiction issues. As most of us have some unresolved past issues impacting us in the present, I use EMDR with the majority of my clients and it’s impacts are truly transformative!
EMDR can also be a stand-alone treatment used in conjunction with other ongoing therapy or on it’s own. Click the button below to book a free consult and learn more!
Shadow Work
We all have a shadow-side. Our shadow contains the aspects of ourselves that we were taught to hide or deny as they weren’t acceptable to our primary caregivers or to our culture. Things like anger, aggression, sadness, jealousy, selfishness, even creativity or spontaneity are common aspects of the self that might be relegated to the shadow, depending upon personal and cultural contexts. The problem is, emotional states and desires that are a natural part of being human don’t just go away— they become repressed and can end up coming up to the surface in difficult or unintegrated ways. A common way our shadow aspects can express themselves is through projection—essentially criticizing or accusing others of the same trait that is repressed in our own psyches. Another way this can manifest is through self-criticism—we may become intensely self-critical if we identify our own shadow aspects coming to the surface. I believe that recognizing, honoring, and ultimately integrating our shadow is an essential part of healing and coming into more balance. I help clients understand, accept, and find healthy, conscious expression of the shadow in my work.
Women’s Health and Feminine Psychology
Women’s cyclical and hormonal health is incredibly intertwined with our mental health! For female psychotherapy clients who have interest, I integrate my knowledge as a women’s health coach with our therapeutic work. The fact is, women have different psychological, emotional, and physiological needs than men as our hormones shift throughout the month. Women even have a different stress response than men! I believe that women benefit immensely from mental health treatment that addresses these differences and incorporates the wisdom of women’s cycles. I work with women to learn about the intuitive blueprint they have built-in and how to tap into this more deeply in order to address patterns and stressors, create necessary boundaries, tap into their creativity and their instincts and make lifestyle shifts to reduce stress and support healthy hormones.
